Wal-Mart ordered to reinstate workers,
After Wal-Mart fired sixteen workers for missing a shift to
take part in a strike and having to go to court because of this, the judge has
declared that the workers will have to be reinstated to their former jobs.
This is due to the ethical bounders that were crossed when
the judge stated that the workers had been discriminated against by Wal-Mart.
Like most ethical issues, the spectators of the issue have a range of opinions.
As Wal-Mart is a brand name, having bad publicity about them in the news is
hurtful to their brand name. Tough only sixteen of the workers were going on
strike, their colleagues had released statements of support for the sixteen
workers.
Wal-Mart stated that the employees were fired for an unexcused
absence from work. As the judge dismissed this and stated that Wal-Mart is to
rehire the workers, Wal-Mart also must explain to all employees what their
right to strike is.
Being ethical in a business is important both for employers
and employees, this is to create a working environment that will motivate
workers. Just as employers should treat workers equally , the employees should
be respectful and well present in order to complete the aims and objectives of
the business.
2.5/4 - a good 'report' of the issue but there is a need for more application of business theory and the concepts
